Respiratory Protection Equipment Market: The Technological and Regulatory Aspects

In the wake of the Delaware County mercury exposure incident associated with Environmental Remediation Services, the decisive role of the Occupational safety and Health Administration (OSHA) gained public appreciation. The company was fined $142,000 for willful violation of the OSH Act of 1970, and had 14 citations issued against it. Mercury vapors, when inhaled over short or long duration, can lead to several biological complications such as anxiety, anorexia and fatigue. The omission of respiratory protection equipment (RPE) is completely imprudent in such hazardous settings.

Safety at workplace is identified as the employer’s responsibility. Sheer negligence is the underlying reason for most cases of regulatory violations. While in some of them, the employer tries to avoid the expenditure on protection equipment, for they consider it as “auxiliary.” The imposition of penalties on defaulters ensures strict adherence to the regulatory frameworks. However, technological advancements in the respiratory protection equipment market have helped enterprises actually stick to the guidelines.

Non-starch Polysaccharides Sales Market: The Quest for Healthier Alternative

Non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) sales market is on the rise in the current decade. The keyword behind the latest substantial growth of the industry is health-awareness. Over year and years of research and medical studies, the multiple nutritional benefits of NSPs has been established firmly in and around the industry. These dietary fibers when consumed or fed in recommended dosage helps keep the digestive tract healthy. They are naturally sourced from grains, legumes, and certain vegetative parts of the plants. Included among its sundry benefits are lowering of cholesterol levels, digestion boosting, binding agent for carcinogenic proteins, and balancing pH levels in gastrointestinal tracts. In full awareness of these advantages, the consumption and consequent demand of NSPs among global population has augmented and so has the sales volumes.

The non-starch polysaccharides sales market is primarily driven by two major end-using segments—food & beverage and animal feed. In both divisions, the use of dietary fibers is targeted at improving the flavor, texture, and profile of processed food, feed, and beverage. They are popularly used as thickeners and stabilizing agents. Amidst the rising pressure of food security for global population, need for consumable and affordable meat products escalates. It is not just the meat though that the industry is concerned about. Dairy, eggs, wool, hides, and other pipeline products complete the extensive list of end-products.

Renal Dialysis Equipment Market in Indian Economics

Renal dialysis equipment market in India undergoes a fresh course of progress in 2016. When the Indian finance minister, Arun Jaitley declared the Budget 2016, he exempted certain segment offerings from previously applicable import duties. This directly exposed the patients in need of dialytic procedures to access better healthcare facilities at low non-insured costs.
As reported in an official release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), each year there are around 2.2 lac new additions to the populace suffering from chronic kidney diseases in India. A majority of these confirmed that their annual out-of-pocket expenditure for availing dialysis sessions sum up to a figure of INR 3 lac. The ruling government responded by stepping up to the expectations of the people with its “National Dialysis Services Program.” This program aims at providing fund benefits to those families that cannot sustain the disbursements made towards accessing regular dialytic care for the suffering member. The government also addressed the issue of these services being concentrated within a limited number of healthcare centers. The 4,950 hubs, to provide the service, were mostly privately-owned and were kind of non-sufficient for the millions of patients in critical need of hemodialysis.
The governing agencies shortened the gap between the facility and the recipients by placing dialysis services at the district hospitals all over the country. The funds directed towards the needy patients will be provided through Public Private Partnership (PPP) Mode. Exemption from custom, excise, countervailing, and special addition duties will render the expensive parts of renal dialysis equipment more affordable.
This has struck a fascinating note in the entire renal dialysis market in India. The administration at privately owned point-of-care burdens its consumers with added maintenance charges. A huge drift is due from the said ‘quality care’ at the fancy healthcare centers towards the ‘necessary care’ at local district alternatives. Considering the density at the lower limit of the range of patients that suffer from chronic kidney diseases, the shift will hurt the large corporate names a bit. Although, the cost-reduction, effective from the current year, will definitely benefit the latter’s growth.
Dr. Rana Mehta, a partner at the Healthcare Division of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Ltd (PwC) remarked that the program will directly impact the private and public segment. According to his forecast, a 5% cutback in final prices of dialysis equipment will boost the present 9% growth rate of public dialysis facilities and raise it up to 15–17%. While the private dialysis centers growing at a CAGR of 15% will be pushed further by 2–3%.

The Indian economy is gradually surfacing with key roles in the Asia-Pacific region. The success of the aforementioned program will bring a defining moment for the leading companies and providers in the industry. All eyes are now on the repercussions of this development on the renal dialysis equipment market in Asia-Pacific.

Changes in Dialysis Prescription to Reduce Risk of Intradialytic Hypotension in Hemodialysis

Intradialytic hypotension (IDH) is defined as a reduction in systolic blood pressure by more than 20 mm-Hg or a drop in mean arterial pressure by 10 mmHg. It is associated with symptoms such as yawning, nausea, abdominal discomfort, sighing, vomiting, restlessness, muscle cramps, dizziness or fainting, and others. It affects patient well-being, restricts ultrafiltration, and hikes the risk for coronary & cerebral ischemic events along with vascular access thrombosis.

Various research activities are conducted to determine effects of IDH with several other conditions. Researchers at St. Luke's International Hospital, Tokyo found that iron deficiency occurring in absence of anemia is related to intradialytic hypotension. Kenichiro Koitabashi and team carried out analysis of biochemical and clinical parameters of 99 patients on maintenance hemodialysis. 44 out of 99 patients were diagnosed with IDH. In these patients, transferrin saturation (TSAT) was found to be 18.1%. After the analysis, it was found that a TSAT level below 20% increased the risk of IDH by three-fold as compared with higher TSAT levels. “Given the effects of IDH on HD patients, our study underscores the importance of treating iron deficiency even without the presence of anemia,” the investigators concluded.

In another experiment, researchers at Fudan University, Shanghai, China found that long-term risk of death can be predicted with the help of IDH among patients on maintenance hemodialysis. A total of 117 of 293 patients were diagnosed with IDH, which researchers defined as a sudden drop in systolic blood pressure of more than 20 mmHg or in mean arterial pressure of more than 10 mmHg. Intradialytic blood pressure was monitored for a period of three months. Five-year mortality rate was noted along with effects of IDH incidence. It was observed that 84 patients died with mortality rate of 5.9% per year. It was also observed that mortality rate increased with IDH incidence. It was evident from the study that IDH increases long-term death risk.

Researchers conducted a study to examine factors related to IDH in hemodialysis patients and reduce the effects. Outcomes of the study were studied for the period of 3 months. Investigators found that over 40% of the patients had improvement in their blood pressure profile. It was observed that minor changes in dialysis prescription can reduce the incidence of IDH in patients on maintenance hemodialysis. To treat patients with frequent IDH, a careful plan of action, limiting fluid & salt, taking right amount of dose of prescription at the right time of the day, and conducting dialysis treatments on time can reduce the risk of IDH significantly.

Analysts studying the industry have presented a thorough analysis on current market trends and future opportunities. Big Market Research has added a report, titled, “Global Intra-Dialytic Hypotension (IDH) Market Report 2016.” The report offers a comprehensive analysis of industry chain structure, industry chain structure, prominent manufacturers, and supply & sales status.
