Digital Radiography is Expected to Transform Dentistry

Digital Radiography is defined as a form of x-ray imaging, wherein digital detectors such as X-ray sensors are used instead of conventional photographic film or CR cassette to generate the digital image, which can then be stored onto a digital medium. The method of digital radiology imaging offers unique benefits over traditional ones owing to its ability to digitally transfer and produce high-resolution images using lesser radiation. The presentation and reproduction of image is very fast since it does away with the chemical processing which is done in traditional methods. After final stage of image generation, they are sent for storage to a digitized archive so that these images can be viewed at any computer workstation.

Radiographic imaging has formed a cornerstone in diagnosis, effective documentation and proper treatment of patients by dentists. Developments for over a century have indicated that digital radiology is a global trend dramatically driving the rapid adoption of digital technology in dentistry. Digital radiography systems allow dentists and patients to instantly view of images on various devices such as PC, iPad, or operatory TV screen at a much higher resolution compared to other conventional film screens. Digital files can easily be shared with third parties such as insurance companies and since these images can be stored on an external hard drive resulting in enhanced manageability of the images.

Considering the diverse nature of dental practice, dentists and clinicians can chose from a vast range of digital radiography equipment and associated image managing software tools to suit their specific needs. Some of the prominent digital radiography systems include intraoral X-ray sensors, dental cone beam systems, phosphor plate X-ray systems and digital imaging software, amongst many others. The dentistry equipment market has also opened newer options in terms of diagnostics, patient education and treatment planning, which is expected to drive the global digital radiography industry. There are many reports in the market which tracks the market dynamics, recent developments and current and future market trends. Recently, Big Market Research has added a report titled “Global Digital Radiography Industry 2015 Deep Market Research Report”, which offers a comprehensive insight into the key drivers and restraints, dominant market trends, market segmentation and forecast along with market strategies adopted by key market players to grow in the market.
