Respiratory Protection Equipment Market: The Technological and Regulatory Aspects

In the wake of the Delaware County mercury exposure incident associated with Environmental Remediation Services, the decisive role of the Occupational safety and Health Administration (OSHA) gained public appreciation. The company was fined $142,000 for willful violation of the OSH Act of 1970, and had 14 citations issued against it. Mercury vapors, when inhaled over short or long duration, can lead to several biological complications such as anxiety, anorexia and fatigue. The omission of respiratory protection equipment (RPE) is completely imprudent in such hazardous settings.

Safety at workplace is identified as the employer’s responsibility. Sheer negligence is the underlying reason for most cases of regulatory violations. While in some of them, the employer tries to avoid the expenditure on protection equipment, for they consider it as “auxiliary.” The imposition of penalties on defaulters ensures strict adherence to the regulatory frameworks. However, technological advancements in the respiratory protection equipment market have helped enterprises actually stick to the guidelines.

Renal Dialysis Equipment Market in Indian Economics

Renal dialysis equipment market in India undergoes a fresh course of progress in 2016. When the Indian finance minister, Arun Jaitley declared the Budget 2016, he exempted certain segment offerings from previously applicable import duties. This directly exposed the patients in need of dialytic procedures to access better healthcare facilities at low non-insured costs.
As reported in an official release by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), each year there are around 2.2 lac new additions to the populace suffering from chronic kidney diseases in India. A majority of these confirmed that their annual out-of-pocket expenditure for availing dialysis sessions sum up to a figure of INR 3 lac. The ruling government responded by stepping up to the expectations of the people with its “National Dialysis Services Program.” This program aims at providing fund benefits to those families that cannot sustain the disbursements made towards accessing regular dialytic care for the suffering member. The government also addressed the issue of these services being concentrated within a limited number of healthcare centers. The 4,950 hubs, to provide the service, were mostly privately-owned and were kind of non-sufficient for the millions of patients in critical need of hemodialysis.
The governing agencies shortened the gap between the facility and the recipients by placing dialysis services at the district hospitals all over the country. The funds directed towards the needy patients will be provided through Public Private Partnership (PPP) Mode. Exemption from custom, excise, countervailing, and special addition duties will render the expensive parts of renal dialysis equipment more affordable.
This has struck a fascinating note in the entire renal dialysis market in India. The administration at privately owned point-of-care burdens its consumers with added maintenance charges. A huge drift is due from the said ‘quality care’ at the fancy healthcare centers towards the ‘necessary care’ at local district alternatives. Considering the density at the lower limit of the range of patients that suffer from chronic kidney diseases, the shift will hurt the large corporate names a bit. Although, the cost-reduction, effective from the current year, will definitely benefit the latter’s growth.
Dr. Rana Mehta, a partner at the Healthcare Division of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Ltd (PwC) remarked that the program will directly impact the private and public segment. According to his forecast, a 5% cutback in final prices of dialysis equipment will boost the present 9% growth rate of public dialysis facilities and raise it up to 15–17%. While the private dialysis centers growing at a CAGR of 15% will be pushed further by 2–3%.

The Indian economy is gradually surfacing with key roles in the Asia-Pacific region. The success of the aforementioned program will bring a defining moment for the leading companies and providers in the industry. All eyes are now on the repercussions of this development on the renal dialysis equipment market in Asia-Pacific.

Changes in Dialysis Prescription to Reduce Risk of Intradialytic Hypotension in Hemodialysis

Intradialytic hypotension (IDH) is defined as a reduction in systolic blood pressure by more than 20 mm-Hg or a drop in mean arterial pressure by 10 mmHg. It is associated with symptoms such as yawning, nausea, abdominal discomfort, sighing, vomiting, restlessness, muscle cramps, dizziness or fainting, and others. It affects patient well-being, restricts ultrafiltration, and hikes the risk for coronary & cerebral ischemic events along with vascular access thrombosis.

Various research activities are conducted to determine effects of IDH with several other conditions. Researchers at St. Luke's International Hospital, Tokyo found that iron deficiency occurring in absence of anemia is related to intradialytic hypotension. Kenichiro Koitabashi and team carried out analysis of biochemical and clinical parameters of 99 patients on maintenance hemodialysis. 44 out of 99 patients were diagnosed with IDH. In these patients, transferrin saturation (TSAT) was found to be 18.1%. After the analysis, it was found that a TSAT level below 20% increased the risk of IDH by three-fold as compared with higher TSAT levels. “Given the effects of IDH on HD patients, our study underscores the importance of treating iron deficiency even without the presence of anemia,” the investigators concluded.

In another experiment, researchers at Fudan University, Shanghai, China found that long-term risk of death can be predicted with the help of IDH among patients on maintenance hemodialysis. A total of 117 of 293 patients were diagnosed with IDH, which researchers defined as a sudden drop in systolic blood pressure of more than 20 mmHg or in mean arterial pressure of more than 10 mmHg. Intradialytic blood pressure was monitored for a period of three months. Five-year mortality rate was noted along with effects of IDH incidence. It was observed that 84 patients died with mortality rate of 5.9% per year. It was also observed that mortality rate increased with IDH incidence. It was evident from the study that IDH increases long-term death risk.

Researchers conducted a study to examine factors related to IDH in hemodialysis patients and reduce the effects. Outcomes of the study were studied for the period of 3 months. Investigators found that over 40% of the patients had improvement in their blood pressure profile. It was observed that minor changes in dialysis prescription can reduce the incidence of IDH in patients on maintenance hemodialysis. To treat patients with frequent IDH, a careful plan of action, limiting fluid & salt, taking right amount of dose of prescription at the right time of the day, and conducting dialysis treatments on time can reduce the risk of IDH significantly.

Synthetic Paper Market: The Epoch of Innovative Designs

DuPont’s Tyvek has been around for more than 50 years, serving a range of verticals with protective packaging and covering solutions. Although back then the developers would have hardly thought that synthetic paper would feature in the 2016 stop-motion animation film, ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’. Also, who would have imagined the creation of Bella, the bride, from recycled medical packaging wastes.  There is more than mere ink and paper to the progressive growth story of the synthetic paper market. The highly established industry is now undergoing a phase that goes beyond the traditional scope of applications.
Synthetic paper is a polymer where durability of plastics meets the cost-efficiency of fabrics. These high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and Biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) class of polymers are synthesized with petroleum as its base component. Stark visual resemblance to traditional paper made from wood pulp is the only thing it has in common. This artificial version of paper is used where packaging, printing, and converting applications have special safety requirements. For instance, consider waterproof packaging of sterile medical equipment that can be easily torn off in a jiffy during emergencies, or protective suits for personnel working in a hazardous environment, which needs to be comfortable enough to allow movement. Apart from these, it also finds usage in tamperproof labeling to reclaim lost profit margins from counterfeited products.

Electronic Warfare Market Expands Owing to Stress in Certain Regions

There is a lot the armed forces worldwide are doing to set up their offices to speed up their electronic warfare reveals industry experts at Big Market Research. The new study, on global electronic warfare market added by these experts takes a closer look at the size and share of the industry. What’s more interesting is that countries such as China and the United States are getting ready to involve themselves in a contest to demonstrate their warfare capabilities. The main reason for this is definitely the growing tensions in the South China Sea. Besides, the UASF pilots have cleared by speculations about adding the electronic warfare initiatives for UAV training to be true.

Armed forces plan to set up new office to strengthen electronic warfare

The armed forces worldwide have become serious about speeding up their electronic warfare. Many armed forces have been vocal about their decision to set up a new vehicle with the aim to circumvent the heavy military acquisition procedures. This is important for areas that serve urgent requirements such as cyber as well as electronic warfare. In a latest incident the RCO decided to follow the footsteps of the Strategic Capabilities Office and Air Force of the Defense Department. These departments were actually set up to supply the critically important items to warfighters fast. Offering more insight into the recent developments Eric Fanning, the Army Secretary during the rollout of RCO in August 31 in Washington said “A goal of the Rapid Capabilities Office is to prioritize cross-domain and integrated solutions. It will put those solutions in front of senior leaders in enabling us to provide necessary pressure at the start of the process to drive innovation, continuous improvement and iteration.”

China is seen preparing for electronic warfare

Over the past few months the tensions especially in the South China Sea area has risen rapidly. This has compelled two countries, the United States and China to enter into a contest to prove their electronic warfare capabilities. If we are to believe the official sources, China has already started constructing a significant number of radar deployments on the islands located in the South China Sea. The country plans on engaging these facilities for various purpose. Such initiatives taken by the countries in the electronic warfare market plays an eminent role in improving the real-time awareness over a much larger area of a particular region. This bold move will now enable a highly sophisticated and effective targeting capabilities for the fast expanding arsenal of the anti-ballistic missiles.

Another major development in the electronic warfare market is the decision taken by the USAF pilots to add capabilities to their UAV training. The US Air Force has already revealed that it has been facing pilot shortages. Moreover, with the need for more and more
unmanned air vehicles that can function in most contested conditions officials feel the new training program will enable them to keep carrying out their operations even under the electronic attacks. Explaining more about the new initiative USAF said “As MQ-1/9 aircraft require satellite signals to operate, it becomes extremely important for aircrews to train toward mitigating potential signal interruptions.” USAF continued “RPA ECOs integrate with the affected MQ-1/9 aircrews, the relay site, space command, and others at the air operations center to mitigate signal interruptions.”
